["Kijkkast"]. Viewing box for optical prints.
Collapsible peepshow in a bookshaped box, late 18th cent., folded out 66(h.)x56(w.)x40(d.) cm., 7 hinging cardboard parts painted blue or w. black dots, w. one glass lense (Ø 11,5 cm.) and mirror, folding into a wooden box 'bound' as a book in full blindst. vellum w. brass clasps and catches, spine w. raised bands and gilt mor. letterpiece reading "Optische vermaakelykheeden", measuring 56(h.)x11,5(w.)x40(d.) cm.
- Vellum is sl. soiled; the wooden sides womrholed; a few connecting parts trifle worn; nevertheless fine.
= Nice viewing box, also called "Rarekiek" in Dutch, for domestical use, w. presumably an original 18th cent. folio binding used as box.
