Miniature in colours and gold, 5x5 cm., on verso of a leaf from a Book of Hours, Southern Netherlands, ±1460, Dutch text in black ink on vellum, rubricated, ±18,5x14,5 cm. (leaf), 10,7x7,5 cm. (text), 22 lines, 3/4 border w. flowers, acanthus leaves and a painted bird in left, right and lower margin (verso) in colours and gold, framed w. both sides visible.

= Contains the compline in the Hours of the Virgin, often accompanied by a miniature of the Flight into Egypt. Decoration to the separate hours in the day suggest this bifolium (otherwise not illuminated) was part of a richly illustrated Dutch Book of Hours. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXXIII.
