- Ad 1: a few minor stains in blank margin; contents fine; bookplate and cat. clipping on upper pastedown. Binding worn/ sl. dam. along extremities; paper over covers dam.

Ad 2: lacks one plate (plate W); title-page of first work sl. yellowed, sl. stained in margins, sl. fingersoiled and with sharp fold in image, partly split at lower end; textpages foxed; one plate lacks portion of outer blank margin; a few fold. plates partly split on fold(s); one fold. plate cut sl. short in lower and upper margin; one fold. plate fold. section loose, frayed and w. false creases on folds.

= Ad 1: Fuhring 4551ff and 4672ff. The first edition (with 4 plates less) was published by De Wit in 1661/ 1665. Kat. Orn. Berlin 4211; Hollstein 5, the second state (of 3); Guilmard p.508. "(...) der geniale Dekorator, Artus Quellin (1609-1668), der durch seine figürlichen und ornamentalen Bildwerke dem sachlich nüchternen stattlichsten Gemeindegebau dieser Zeit, dem Rathaus von Amsterdam, seit 1648, Seele und Herz verliehen hat. Wie die innerliche Glut seines flämischen Geblütes auf holländischem Boden zu breiter Behaglichkeit sich dämpft, kann mann aus den malerischen Ätzungen seines Sohnes Hubert in dem schönen Werke De voornaemste Statuen ende Ciraten (...) ersehen."
