= Henze III, 521f; Howgego M163. I.a. describes an encounter with a Captain Pyke who transported slaves, bound for Maryland, U.S.A. One of the slaves Moore met was Ayuba Suleiman Diallo (known as Job Ben Solomon), a Fulani muslim son of a religious and political leader from Bunda (Senegal) and scholar, who spoke and wrote perfect Arabic. He was sent by his later owner, a Maryland planter, to England where he was introduced at court and was employed in translating Arabic documents. After 14 months he was returned to Gambia and befriended Moore and accompanied him on various trips. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXIV.
