= The first pamphlet published against the 17th century trade in tulip bulbs before the disastrous crash in February 1637. In 1636 a group of 14 pamphlets was published which is considered the first of its kind arguing against participation in the trade because of the unholy greed that came with it. The structure of the pamphlet is a rhymed dialogue between the goddess Flora and several types of flowers arguing against the tulip. The marginal notes condemn in a harsh tone the actions of the "floristen". The very rare first edition without the "Voor-reden tot den leser". Cf. Knuttel 4460 (only listing the 2nd ed. published in the same year). SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CLVIII.

= An attractive set of two beautifully illustrated and closely related works that show the fascination (also known as Turquerie, or Turquoisie) with Ottoman culture at the time. Ad 1: The popularity of the work, due to its fine plates, was such, that successive (unaltered) reprints were made which are only recognizable by the later watermarks in the paper used. The plates in our copy that carry a watermark have the date "Turkey Mills J Whatman 1818", and the textleaves are partly watermarked "1811". The beautiful plates show the spendour of the Ottoman empire as seen through the eyes of the otherwise relatively obscure artist Octavian Dalvimart. Abbey, Travel 370; Atabey 312; Colas 782; Lipperheide Lb 37. Ad 2: The plates are printed on watermarked paper dated "Turkey Mills J. Whatman 1817", the texteaves are watermarked "J. Whatman 1817", hence this copy is a first edition. Abbey, Travel 373; Colas 2059; Blackmer 1125; Lipperheide Qp 3. SEE ILLUSTRATIONS PLATE CLVIII.
