= Basart & Sloet was a glazier firm located in The Hague and active in the years between 1927-1935, founded by the painter and art historian Hans Basart and Willem van den Clooster baron Sloet tot Everlo. The company went bankrupt in 1932, but continued its activities until 1935. The art deco style designs are typical for that period and can still be found in numerous houses in the Netherlands. Mostly designs for "bovenlichten" (window panes above doors) and larger glass windows.
- Most spines w. defects (i.a. splitting) ; a few with front- or backcover detached; a few covers dam.
- Sm. tear in upper margin; a few creases in upper right corner. = Rare calendar.
- Partly frayed, especially in lower (blank) margin; covers worn.
= With the rare publisher's boards.
- Paper brittle, occas. sl. frayed along edges.
= Scarce complete series printed for the American market. Regarded as a forerunner of the American comics.

AND 8 others by the same, mostly free work in pen and black ink, but also incl. 2 gouaches: (A view of a canal in Amsterdam with a horse-drawn carriage on a bridge) (gouache, signed "Wim Stil" in pencil) and "Apollo met de maskers van Thalia en Melpomene, respectievelijk de godinnen van de komedie en de tragedie" (gouache, signed and "Wm Stil" in pencil).
= According to an autobiography in illustrations and drawings, Willem Stil began his career just after World War II, during which he was a forced labourer in Germany, at a publicity agency and later also worked as illustrator for Toonder Studios and as freelancer for various publications/ firms (i.a. Pan Am Airlines and De Haagsche Post). In the fifties he was employed by the Koninklijke/ Shell-Laboratorium, Amsterdam, from which he retired in 1981. The present archive shows his versatility in various styles (the illustrated autobiography contains one leaf with a humorous Tom Poes story about himself drawn in the style of Toonder), and his enormous output. = Nice stylized drawing, showing a farmer on his land and his tractor with Shell logo, surrounded by the various crops that he produces and the bottles w. chemicals that Shell used for the production of weed killers.
