Griffith, Max Linder, Fritz Lang, Abel Gance, Serguei Eisenstein, Spencer Tracy, Rita Hayworth, Jean Cocteau, Akira Kurosawa, Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick. Some of the greatest films of all time are represented: Voyage to the Moon, Metropolis, Intolerance, Faust, Nosferatu, Ben Hur, The Birds and Hiroshima My Love.

The nice illustrations show examples of all kinds of objects, i.a. fashion attributes, flowers, baskets, needlework, cushions, vases etc. A lot of attention is paid to the techniques involved in making such objects and the fabrication and use of i.a. decorative cloths, paper and paint. "Maar haar [A.B. van Meerten Schilperoort's] grootste roem geldt het tijdschrift voor dames Pénélopé (...). Het verscheen in 8 delen van 1821 tot 1835 bij haar vaste uitgever Beijerinck en is met zijn 192 handgekleurde platen op afstand het fraaiste en kostbaarste Nederlandse periodiek uit de negentiende eeuw. De prijs, honderdtwintig gulden, was er ook naar! Anna Barbera heeft trouwens steeds de hoogste eisen gesteld aan de uitvoering van haar geschriften.
