= Rare. Franken 359; not in Hollstein. The series shows couples from all over the world in local dresses, combined with astrological signs. These engravings are attributed to Crispijn de Passe II, probably because the plates of the series appear in the inventories of the De Passe firm from 1639 (Veldman, p.453, nr. 199: 'Twaelf maenden in drachten in 12 plaetgen') and 1653 (Veldman, p.456, nr. 32). Franken was the first to ascribe the engravings (on the basis of only six plates: described as those 'très belles gravures') to Crispijn II.

Printed from silver medallions by Simon van der Passe: i.a. busts of Henry IV of France and his wife and reverse of the medallion showing their coat of arms, busts of Frederick, Count Palatine, the Princess Elizabeth his wife, and their eldest son and the reverse of the medallion.

- Small hole in left blank margin; upper end of middle fold strengthened on verso; nevertheless fine.
= The famous double-portrait of Gerard Mercator and Jodocus Hondius. It was engraved by Coletta Hondius (born Van der Keere) in tribute to her late husband, who had died in 1612, and appeared in the Mercator/ Hondius atlas from 1613 onwards.
