= Tiele 659 (erroneously calls for 6 vols.); cf. Mendelssohn I, p.889; cf. Gay 3118. Cox I, p.389: " (...) interesting as an account of South Africa at a time when comparatively little was known regarding its natural history and the Dutch settlers". Henze III, p.228: "Seine Werke fesselte durch lebhafte, flüssige Diktion und mußten Gemüter mächtig ansprechen, in denen noch Rousseausche Ideen nachklangen. Kein Reise-schriftsteller über Süd-Afrika hat größere Beachtung in west. Ausland gefunden als er."

= Interleaved copy, with at the end 24 blank leaves for annots., 4 of which are specially prepared w. ground bone for writing with a silver pointed pen (not present). Rare.

= Rare. With Jahrbuch für Freunde des Angenehmen und Nützlichen. Als Anhang zu dem Meissner gemeinnützigen Kalender. With a woodcut illustration on divisional title showing people in Spanish costume and a bull fight. The folding plate shows historical events, i.a. Russians bringing their wares to the market in Leipsic in 1810, English goods destroyed, the birth of the son of Napoleon Bonaparte and Napoleon visiting Breda and having an audience with the local catholic and protestant clergy in Breda. With manuscript annotations in pen and ink in the margins of the calendar leaves, mostly biblical references.
- Foot of spine dam.
= The central section contains: "souvenir ou dépositaire fidèle et discret" (an agenda in which to write appointments or notes which can be erased again on the special prepared blue paper).
- With stamp of seven arrows representing the Seven Provinces in red ink on title. Contents occas. sl. (water)stained. Small dam. spot at upper edge frontcover; vellum sl. soiled, a few sm. stains and wrinkled; lacks ties.
= Contains a rhyme in contemp. hand on each blank leaf with regards to the month of the year (mostly 4 lines) and some occas. entries. Very rare and early almanac. "Daarnaast bestonden er, blijkens leveranties en titeluitgaven, veel contacten tussen almanakkenuitgevers en lokale, (semi-)officiële instellingen. Het waren waarschijnlijk Broer Jansz' almanakken die omstreeks 1649 werden aangeschaft door het Collegium Medicum. Instellingen als het Sint Pieters Gasthuis en het Oudezijds Huiszittenhuis werden jaarlijks door Bouman en Saeghman bediend. Jan Jacobsz Bouman drukte titeluitgaven van zijn Comptoir almanach (4to) voor de (koopmans)beursknecht Isaac Calckoen en Gillis Joosten Saeghman voor zijn opvolgers Jacob van Campen en Gerrit Oonck. Beiden drukten titeluitgaven voor de weduwe en erven van Michiel Colijn en Hendrick Magnus, die voor de VOC werkten". (Salman p.253ff). No other copy known. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXXVI.

Cat. almanakken (etc.) R.W.P. de Vries, no. 122; Nijhoff/ Van Hattum 349n; The Children's World of Learning 2703: "(...) on the one hand containing the usual almanac parts, (...) on the other hand offering a continuous and extensive chronicle of Zeeland, (...) especially intended to teach the children of Zeeland their regional history".
